Director of Marketing and Communications

Job Summary:

The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for developing and implementing strategic marketing and communications plans to drive enrollment and fundraising goals for Spoon River College. This includes overseeing the planning and implementation of all marketing activities, managing the college's image and message, and ensuring a consistent brand identity across all communication channels.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conceptualize, evaluate, and implement communication strategies and priorities in support of strategic planning efforts.
  • Lead the college in creating institutional marketing and branding for all communication and publication efforts.
  • Direct the creative vision for advertising campaigns for both enrollment and the institutional image.
  • Manage the college's social media marketing strategy.
  • Remain current with all campus and program information, including new or complex program offerings.
  • Develop and execute strategic marketing plans for activities that drive enrollment for the college.
  • Supervise department staff to include planning, assigning, and directing work, and performance evaluation.
  • Serve on the Advocates for College Enrollment Committee.
  • Manage the department budget and fiscal operations of the marketing department.
  • Assist the Crisis Response Team with emergency communication responses and contribute to the development and updating of emergency communication plans.
  • Coordinate and oversee external marketing/printing contracts to ensure institutional expectations are realized.
  • Serve as the editor and/or coordinator of all college publications.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data on marketing campaigns and other activities.
  • Support key initiatives identified by the strategic plan.
  • Monitor plan, provide regular updates, and report on progress and outcomes to the President and others as needed.
  • Coordinate all digital marketing efforts.
  • Collaborate with departments on video creation, social media efforts, website content, online streaming, signage, vinyl graphics, and other special projects.
  • Serve as the primary contact for all media inquiries and work to establish the College as a content resource in the local market.
  • Devises and coordinates schedules to ensure timely production of materials, accuracy of content, quality, and efficiency.
  • Maintain the integrity of SRC's visual guidelines.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to build and protect the college's image and reputation.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Three years of related experience is required. Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Adobe business products including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro required.
  • Experience using WordPress is preferred.
  • Demonstrated writing, editing, and effective coordination with marketing and printing organizations in areas of responsibility is required.
  • Communication experience reflecting a wide range of skills and abilities is required.
  • Experience in managing strategic brand marketing or advertising programs is required.
  • Experience in implementing comprehensive social media marketing programs is required. Experience in higher education marketing is preferred.
  • Experience in video content creation and editing is required.
  • Personal computer expertise with an emphasis in design program applications (Adobe Creative Suite) is preferred.
  • Experience in publication and media production, along with knowledge of website development is preferred.
  • Must possess organizational abilities and superior interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
