Position Overview

The Project Director is tasked with spearheading a diverse team, ensuring meticulous engineering oversight, supervising equipment fabrication processes, and implementing subcontracting strategies. This role involves tracking contractor timelines and progress while providing comprehensive project status updates to senior management. A strong emphasis on safety culture and adherence to quality standards is paramount throughout all project phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the interests of the business unit in the execution of large-scale projects valued between $200 million and $750 million.
  • Collaborate with project and business development teams to identify and strategize project solutions that enhance Air Liquide's competitive edge.
  • Develop project execution plans in alignment with Project Management Institute standards and Air Liquide protocols.
  • Lead a multinational project execution team, integrating representatives from various business sectors.
  • Engage in essential engineering review meetings at international locations.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive project risk register, actively managing identified risks and opportunities.
  • Participate in the negotiation and execution of engineering, procurement, and construction contracts.
  • Implement tracking mechanisms and progress reporting using metrics and dashboards to convey project status to upper management.
  • Coordinate with regulatory authorities to secure necessary permits and licenses.
  • Guide the project team in the creation of discipline-specific subcontract packages and oversee contractor selection processes.
  • Negotiate construction contracts in collaboration with the subcontracting department and legal team.
  • Supervise onsite construction activities, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Analyze, manage, and mitigate risks throughout project development and execution.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration among operations, engineering, construction, and project delivery teams.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and proper construction techniques.
  • Prepare and present internal and external monthly project reports in accordance with Air Liquide E&C standards.
  • Evaluate and execute construction subcontract change orders.
  • Champion safety performance across all project dimensions, particularly at construction sites.

Main Accountabilities

  • Initiate and organize projects, establishing budgets and monitoring progress while implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Guarantee service quality and compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Develop self-inspection methods to achieve stipulated quality objectives.
  • Manage contract conditions, ensuring job execution aligns with service area offerings and identifying scope changes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Owner Representatives, addressing their requests and negotiating contract variations.
  • Forecast project resource requirements effectively.
  • Ensure adherence to the Projects Execution Plan and associated procedures.
  • Promote Value Engineering and Capital efficiency initiatives, encouraging continuous improvement and knowledge sharing among project members.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements, Owner Representative expectations, and project coordination procedures.
  • Oversee procurement and subcontract bidding processes in line with Air Liquide policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering from an accredited institution; advanced degree preferred.
  • 15-20 years of experience in engineering, project management, or construction within an EPC environment, with exposure to business development and procurement.
  • Proven skills in conflict resolution and crisis management; military experience is advantageous.
  • Strong communication abilities across various organizational levels, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to share technical expertise and mentor team members.
  • Demonstrated capability to plan and understand all aspects of the construction process.
  • Recognized as a leader with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, with up to 30% of time spent on the road.
  • Fluency in multiple languages is a plus.
