Position Overview

The Project Director is tasked with steering a diverse team, ensuring meticulous engineering oversight, supervising equipment manufacturing processes, and establishing a comprehensive subcontracting strategy. This role includes tracking contractor timelines and progress while providing regular updates to senior management. Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the interests of the business unit in the execution of large-scale projects, typically ranging from $200 million to $750 million.
  • Collaborate with project and business development teams to identify and strategize project solutions that enhance Air Liquide's competitive edge.
  • Develop project execution plans in alignment with Project Management Institute standards and Air Liquide's operational procedures.
  • Lead a multinational project execution team, integrating members from various business sectors.
  • Engage in essential engineering review meetings at international locations.
  • Maintain a comprehensive project risk register, actively managing identified risks and opportunities.
  • Participate in the negotiation and execution of engineering, procurement, and construction contracts.
  • Implement project tracking and reporting mechanisms, utilizing metrics and dashboards to communicate project status to upper management.
  • Establish a baseline project schedule and monitor adherence to this timeline.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies to secure necessary permits and licenses.
  • Guide the project team in developing subcontract packages and lead contractor selection processes.
  • Oversee construction activities on-site, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Analyze and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration among operations, engineering, construction, and project delivery teams.
  • Ensure the application of appropriate construction methods and uphold quality standards.
  • Prepare monthly project reports in accordance with Air Liquide's processes.
  • Manage and negotiate construction subcontract change orders.
  • Champion safety performance across all project aspects, particularly at construction sites.

Main Accountabilities

  • Initiate and organize projects, establishing budgets and monitoring project control programs.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements and quality service delivery.
  • Develop self-inspection measures to achieve established quality objectives.
  • Manage contract conditions and identify scope changes relative to contractual obligations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Owner Representatives, addressing their requests and negotiating contract variations.
  • Forecast project resource requirements effectively.
  • Ensure adherence to the Projects Execution Plan and associated procedures.
  • Promote Value Engineering and Continuous Improvement initiatives among project members.
  • Guarantee compliance with contract stipulations, project coordination procedures, and quality standards.
  • Ensure procurement and subcontract bidding align with Air Liquide's policies and governance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering from an accredited institution; advanced degree preferred.
  • 15-20 years of experience in engineering, project management, or related fields, with exposure to business development and procurement.
  • Proven conflict resolution and crisis management skills; military experience is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, across various organizational levels.
  • Ability to mentor and share technical knowledge with team members.
  • Demonstrated planning capabilities and understanding of the construction process.
  • Established leadership qualities with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, with up to 30% time on the road.
  • Fluency in multiple languages is a plus.
