Job Summary

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing various chemical, microscopic, microbiological, and hematological tests to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease. This role requires a strong understanding of human physiology and science to evaluate test results for accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

• Records laboratory test data, patient, and quality control information.
• Is actively involved in quality control procedures, review, and corrective action.
• Maintains care of expensive laboratory equipment and instruments and judicious use of materials.
• Assists in training new lab personnel, externs, and students.
• Carefully handles infectious material to protect all laboratory personnel.

Requirements

• Current State of California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License required.
• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field required.

Skills

• Ability to work well with other people in times of medical emergencies and in a fast-paced, heavy workload environment.
• Form perception required to see detail of specimens under microscopic study.
• Color discrimination required to stain slides and to distinguish various shades and colors of specimens.
• Near-visual acuity required to read detailed instructions and to examine specimens.
• Finger and manual dexterity required to handle specimens and small pieces of laboratory equipment.
