Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician II to join our team in the Inpatient Pharmacy Supply Chain and Compounding department at UNC Health Care. As a Pharmacy Technician II, you will play a critical role in supporting our pharmacists by reviewing, compounding, and dispensing medications. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, fulfill medication and supply orders for distribution to hospitals and clinics within and/or affiliated with UNC Health Care.
  • Compound and/or repackage medications (sterile products, oral, topical, etc.) under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Coordinate shipments to hospitals and clinics with multiple couriers and shipment pathways and ensure compliance with temperature requirements (i.e., cold chain, room temperature).
  • Document pharmaceutical distribution activities for medications and equipment, quality control requirements, etc. using automated and paper systems. Ensure accuracy of data.
  • Respond to and triage requests from customers for assistance with pharmacy distribution or compounding services.
  • Support hospital automated dispensing technology to supply correct refill medications through targeted distribution programs.
  • Receive, restock, and rotate inventory, and complete expiration date management.
  • Assist with training of new employees, educating them in job-specific functions.
  • Contribute to process improvement projects.
  • Participate in regulatory compliance inspection of medication storage areas, including inspections and/or controlled substance inventories, USP797 and other regulatory documentation as required.
Requirements
  • Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
  • CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
  • Prior pharmacy technician experience is preferred.
  • Sterile compounding experience is preferred.
Work Environment

This is a full-time position with a standard work schedule of 40 hours per week. The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with a focus on delivering high-quality patient care. The successful candidate will be required to stand and walk for extended periods, lift at least 40 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift, and reach overhead to access shelved product or for cleaning.
