As a Solutions Engineer, you will serve as the essential technical link throughout the sales process, both before and after the sale. Your deep understanding of Cloudflare's extensive global network and technology will enable you to identify optimal solutions for clients, conduct training sessions for new customers via video conferencing or in-person meetings, and support the long-term success of our clients.
In this role, you will act as a trusted advisor on web and mobile security and performance, assisting in the development of new firewall rules from log files, devising performance caching and delivery strategies, and creating or modifying internal tools and scripts tailored for clients.
Key Responsibilities- As vital members of Cloudflare's Enterprise Sales team, Solutions Engineers facilitate technical discussions and implementations to foster new business opportunities, enhance existing relationships, and maintain customer satisfaction.
- Your responsibilities will include qualifying prospect and customer use cases, discovering technical requirements, leading product demonstrations, identifying and designing solutions, and collaborating on proofs-of-concept (PoCs).
- For our established clients, you will be part of a dedicated account team that provides guidance on technical best practices, implementation of Cloudflare products, and strategic advice on internet security and performance.
- This role requires travel for client meetings, industry conferences, and collaboration with Cloudflare colleagues.
- Proven experience with a scripting language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Bash, Lua, Go) and a willingness to enhance those skills.
- Strong knowledge of internet technologies, including OSI Model layers 1-7, BGP, GRE, TCP/UDP, DNS (both authoritative and recursive), HTTP(S), and SSL/TLS.
- A minimum of 3 years in a customer-facing sales or consulting position (not necessarily in technology).
- A passion for technology and a commitment to staying current with Cloudflare's offerings and industry trends.
- A focus on continuous learning, teaching, collaboration, mentorship, and personal and team growth.
- In addition to technical and collaborative abilities, we value project management skills, relationship building, and emotional intelligence.
- Experience in building or contributing to web applications.
- Understanding of firewall roles and the distinctions between L3, L4, and L7 firewalls.
- Comfort with command-line interfaces, RESTful APIs, and analyzing HTTP requests and responses.
- Ability to explain the differences between CSRF, XSS, and SQL injection, along with Cloudflare's protective measures against them.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards such as PCI DSS, HIPAA, and SOC-2.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory; we welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds.
- Advanced degrees in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.
- Relevant certifications.
- You excel at translating complex technical concepts for various audiences, from systems engineers to C-level executives.
- You have a strong desire to learn continuously and share knowledge with the broader team through blog posts, demos, and training sessions.
- You possess a knack for problem-solving and can creatively address customer challenges with our expanding product suite.
- You understand project management principles, work effectively to deadlines, and prioritize competing demands.
