Position Overview

The role of the Travel Pharmacist is crucial in ensuring optimal medication management and patient safety within healthcare settings. This position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing patient care through effective pharmaceutical practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Medication Review: Evaluate all medication orders from healthcare providers to confirm the appropriateness of drug selection, dosage, frequency, and administration route.
  • Patient Safety: Assess patient allergies, medical history, potential drug interactions, and laboratory results to identify any clinical conflicts before dispensing medications.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain control over pharmaceutical inventory to ensure availability and compliance with regulations.
  • Support for Healthcare Team: Provide essential drug information and guidance to other members of the healthcare team to promote informed decision-making.
  • Supervision: Oversee pharmacy students and technicians in the preparation and dispensing of medications, ensuring accuracy and safety throughout the medication use process.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the healthcare team to facilitate effective discharge planning and continuity of care for patients.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree from a College of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (Required).
  • Advanced Degree: Doctorate Degree (PharmD) is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital setting or Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) in a clinical environment is preferred.
