YOUR ROLE
As a Residential Sales Consultant at Simpson Strong-Tie, you will serve as a key representative for the company, focusing on driving product sales within the Residential sector across the Virginia and Washington, D.C. regions. Your responsibilities will include offering support services and training, ensuring our products are adequately stocked, well-maintained, and effectively showcased. You will play a vital role in coordinating with branch and company initiatives to foster profitable growth. The Residential market segment includes all projects, contractors, and distribution partners involved in serving residential needs. You will act as the primary liaison for the Residential construction supply chain, responsible for promoting all Simpson product lines tailored to customer requirements, competitive landscape, and market opportunities. Additionally, you will lead and engage in training sessions and workshops both within and outside your designated territory, which will involve planning, promotion, setup, presentation, and teardown, along with providing feedback for enhancements. Collaboration with your Territory Sales Manager will be essential to relay market trends and field insights to ensure customer satisfaction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (% of Time)
- Engage with existing and potential clients to cultivate relationships, showcase product features and advantages, introduce new retail programs, supply samples, and secure orders. Deliver exceptional customer support to address issues and provide ongoing assistance and training as necessary. (50%)
- Establish, maintain, and refresh customer product displays as required, including marketing materials and signage. (25%)
- Support territory initiatives to align efforts with company, branch, and territory objectives. Assist builder and dealer partners by evaluating processes and products on residential job sites, assessing industry and market demands, and formulating suitable strategies. (10%)
- Advocate for Simpson Strong-Tie as a key industry partner and potential employer; participate in trade exhibitions, association gatherings, and various committees; offer educational sessions in classroom environments to diverse audiences, including suppliers, specifiers, building officials, contractors, and homeowners. (10%)
- Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities, including but not limited to, effective CRM management, scheduling, business planning, timely submission of expense reports, routine maintenance of company vehicles, and other duties as assigned by your supervisor. (5%)
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
To excel in this role, the following qualifications are beneficial:
- Preferred Bachelor's degree.
- 1-2 years of relevant industry experience and/or training. Familiarity with residential construction practices and distribution channels is advantageous. Proven sales and account management experience with a track record of sales and profit growth is preferred.
- Technical Acumen: Ability to acquire product knowledge to become a trusted resource for Simpson Products and solutions, collaborating with Specialists for necessary support.
- Presentation Skills: Proficiency in crafting and delivering engaging presentations, utilizing sales techniques to guide prospects through compelling narratives.
- Creative & Innovative Thinking: Capacity to demonstrate creativity and innovation in contributing to organizational and individual goals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in a combination of professional office settings, customer locations, and outdoor construction sites. The role routinely utilizes standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers/scanners, etc. The employee may occasionally work near moving mechanical components, and noise levels may be elevated at times.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
This position necessitates 50% domestic travel.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS & LOCATION
This is a full-time, exempt role based in Central/Northern Virginia.

COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $56,600 - $80,900 per year. This range is based on national averages and may vary depending on geographical work location.
