Available Positions: Full Time/Part Time

We are seeking a Veterinary Assistant III to provide exceptional care in our Emergency and Intensive Care Unit from 7 am to 7 pm, Thursday to Saturday, as well as an experienced Surgery Assistant for our specialty services from 8 am to 6 pm, four weekdays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote a culture based on our core values: Respect, Learning, Integrity, Exceptional Service, and Enjoyment.
  • Prepare and sanitize examination rooms, medical instruments, and surgical areas between appointments.
  • Gather initial patient data, including medical histories and vaccination records, and document this information accurately.
  • Comfort and manage pets before, during, and after procedures.
  • Record examination findings and update patient records as instructed by veterinarians.
  • Educate pet owners on general care, specific conditions, and post-procedure care under the veterinarian's guidance.
  • Monitor and document the physical condition and vital signs of pets post-surgery.
  • Maintain cleanliness in cages, pens, and boarding areas.
  • Provide feeding, hydration, grooming, and exercise for pets during their stay.
  • Address general inquiries from clients.
  • Assist in procedures that do not require direct veterinarian or veterinary technician involvement.
  • Conduct basic health assessments of pets, identifying signs of illness or injury, and provide treatment under veterinarian supervision.
  • Administer certain medications, perform routine lab tests, and educate clients on medication usage and side effects under the direction of a veterinarian or veterinary technician.
  • Deliver professional, efficient, and high-quality care to clients while maximizing productivity.
  • Foster a collaborative practice environment that ensures quality, compassionate, and effective healthcare for pets.
  • Adhere to all practice policies, quality assurance standards, and minimum care requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of animal care and welfare.
  • Basic understanding of pharmacology.
  • Proficiency in various computer applications, including Microsoft Office and industry-related websites.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with a focus on customer service.
  • Basic math skills for accurate medication and fluid dosage calculations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach towards pets and their owners.
  • Ability to interact professionally and kindly with clients and colleagues.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with care.
  • Ability to remain calm in a dynamic and sometimes stressful work environment.

Educational Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED is required.

Certifications:

Completion of a NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program is preferred.

Medication Clerk Certification or willingness to obtain certification is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a veterinary assistant is required.

Work Schedule:

  • Four 10-hour shifts for Surgery Assistants with alternating on-call duties.
  • 12-hour shifts from 7 am to 7 pm for ER/ICU positions.

Relocation:

  • Ability to reliably commute or relocate as needed.
