We are in search of a Veterinary Assistant III to support our Emergency and Intensive Care Unit from 7 am to 7 pm, Thursday through Saturday, as well as an experienced Surgery Assistant for our specialty service from 8 am to 6 pm on four weekdays.

Key Responsibilities:
- Promote a culture rooted in our core values: Respect, Learning, Integrity, Exceptional Service, and Enjoyment.
- Sanitize and prepare examination rooms, medical instruments, and surgical areas between appointments.
- Gather initial patient information, medical histories, vaccination records, and reasons for visits. Document and update patient records accordingly.
- Comfort and restrain pets before, during, and after procedures.
- Record examination results and update records as directed by veterinarians.
- Educate pet owners on general care, specific conditions, and post-procedure care as directed by the veterinarian.
- Monitor and document pets' physical status and vital signs following surgical procedures.
- Observe, record, and report the condition and vital signs of hospitalized and boarded pets.
- Clean and disinfect cages, pens, runs, and boarding facilities.
- Feed, hydrate, groom, and exercise pets during their stay.
- Address general inquiries from clients.
- Assist in procedures that do not require veterinarian or veterinary technician involvement.
- Conduct basic health assessments of pets, identifying signs of illness or injury, and provide treatment under veterinarian supervision.
- Administer specific medications, perform routine lab tests, fill prescriptions, and educate clients on medication use and side effects under veterinarian or veterinary technician guidance.
- Deliver professional, efficient, and high-quality care while maintaining productivity.
- Support a collaborative practice environment that ensures quality, compassionate, and effective healthcare for pets.
- Adhere to all practice policies, quality assurance standards, and minimum care requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Comprehensive understanding of animal science.
- Basic knowledge of pharmacology.
- Proficiency in various computer applications, including Microsoft Outlook and Word.
- Effective written, verbal, and listening communication skills with a focus on customer service.
- Basic math skills for accurate medication and fluid dosage administration.
- Critical thinking, judgment, and problem-solving abilities.
- Compassion and empathy for both animals and their owners.
- Ability to interact professionally and compassionately with clients and colleagues.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, capable of handling multiple priorities.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with care.
- Ability to remain calm in a dynamic and sometimes stressful work environment.
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Professional Certifications:
Completion of a NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program is preferred.
Medication Clerk Certification or willingness to obtain certification is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a veterinary assistant is required.
Work Schedule:
- Four 10-hour shifts for Surgery Assistant with alternating on-call after-hours/weekend (compensated).
- 12-hour shifts from 7 am to 7 pm for ER/ICU positions.
