Position Overview: The Financial Aid Services Counselor plays a crucial role in representing the University and the Enrollment Management division to current and prospective families, focusing on access, affordability, and financing solutions. This is a full-time role that may require some evening and weekend hours. The counselor will report directly to the Director of Financial Aid Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a liaison for prospective and current students, guiding them in securing the necessary resources to finance their education at Roosevelt University.
  • Enhance student satisfaction and retention by delivering exceptional customer service and proactive financial support to a designated caseload of students.
  • Utilize sound judgment and discretion to assess each student's financial situation, recommending and implementing tailored financing plans that foster engagement and success.
  • Provide comprehensive information to students and their families regarding various financial aid options and financing strategies.
  • Assist students in completing financial aid applications and payment agreements, while staying informed about federal, state, and institutional regulations related to financial aid.
  • Communicate policies and procedures effectively, ensuring students understand the rationale and benefits behind them.
  • Efficiently package and process student aid and account requests in a timely manner.
  • Leverage technology and systems to enhance service delivery to students and families.
  • Manage all aspects of third-party billing, acting as the liaison for agencies and coordinating billing processes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across various departments to ensure a consistently outstanding educational experience for students.
  • Conduct financial aid outreach programs and deliver college-specific financial aid presentations at various events.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and participate in special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in financial aid, student accounts, or a related area.
  • Strong organizational, communication (both written and verbal), and interpersonal skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Commitment to service excellence, embodying the university's core values in all interactions.
  • A professional demeanor with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with financial aid software systems.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.

Working Conditions: This position is primarily office-based, with a normal climate-controlled environment. The role is largely sedentary but may require occasional movement around the office. Regular use of a desktop computer is necessary, which involves frequent hand and wrist movement.
