Position Overview:

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Assess comprehensive commercial refrigeration systems, particularly parallel compression setups, for their condition, capacity, and efficiency in light of proposed renovations.
  • Conduct surveys of existing systems to gather essential architectural details, model specifications, and overall condition.
  • Execute refrigeration load assessments.
  • Organize loads across suitable compressor suction groups.
  • Determine compressor and condenser capacities and select new equipment as necessary.
  • Size all associated piping, pressure regulating valves, and related components.
  • Possess prior design experience with various system types, including condensing units, distributed systems, cascade systems, and secondary pumped systems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience with supermarket energy management systems (EMS).
  • Interpret and analyze complex mechanical, electrical, and architectural schematics.
  • Exhibit a willingness to learn about advanced system types, such as CO2 Transcritical systems.
  • Create refrigeration and EMS designs that adhere to client specifications and comply with all relevant local and state regulations.

Leadership Duties:

  • Delegate tasks to team members, including support engineering personnel and drafting technicians, to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Provide mentorship to other mechanical and refrigeration designers as needed.
  • Review, validate, and take responsibility for design outputs produced by team members when required.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in refrigeration design is essential, along with an EIT pursuing PE licensure.

Alternatively, an associate degree with at least 5-8 years of relevant refrigeration design experience is acceptable, provided the candidate can demonstrate the applicability of their experience to the outlined responsibilities.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong leadership skills to educate clients and team members.
  • Engage with the project team to review schedules, budgets, site challenges, and design evaluations.
  • Assess preliminary and final designs with other disciplines for functionality, clearances, and coordination.
  • Maintain client communication.
  • Conduct quality assurance on projects in collaboration with the technical manager or project engineer.
  • Uphold high standards of professional integrity while prioritizing the interests of the company and clients.
  • Ability to meet demanding deadlines.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Physical Requirements:

Must be capable of sitting and/or standing for extended periods, managing stressful situations, and multitasking. The role may require working under tight deadlines, and long hours may be necessary. Work Environment:

Must be able to handle high-pressure situations, multitask, and work within reasonable time constraints to meet production schedules and budgets. The position will primarily be in a standard office environment, with occasional requirements to work outside of the typical office setting.
