  • Conduct thorough surveys of existing refrigeration setups and gather essential architectural details, including model numbers and system conditions.
  • Execute refrigeration load assessments.
  • Organize loads across suitable compressor suction groups.
  • Determine compressor and condenser capacities and select new equipment as necessary.
  • Size all associated piping and pressure-regulating components.
  • Demonstrate prior design experience across various system types, including condensing units, distributed systems, cascade systems, and secondary pumped systems.
  • Possess knowledge and experience with supermarket energy management systems (EMS).
  • Interpret and analyze complex mechanical, electrical, and architectural schematics.
  • Exhibit a willingness to learn about innovative system types, such as CO2 Transcritical systems.
  • Create refrigeration and EMS designs that adhere to client specifications and comply with all relevant local and state regulations.

Leadership Duties:

  • Delegate tasks to team members, including engineering support staff and drafting technicians, to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Provide mentorship and training to fellow mechanical and refrigeration designers as required.
  • Review and endorse design outputs from team members when necessary, taking ownership of the final work.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 2-5 years of relevant experience in refrigeration design is essential, along with an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

Alternatively, an associate degree with at least 5-8 years of applicable refrigeration design experience may be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of discipline-specific codes and other building regulations.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership skills to educate clients and team members.
  • Engage with the project team to discuss timelines, budgets, phasing, site challenges, and design review matters.
  • Review initial and final designs with other disciplines to ensure functionality, clearances, and coordination.
  • Maintain client relationships.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks on projects in collaboration with the technical manager or project engineer.
  • Uphold high standards of professional integrity while prioritizing the interests of the company and clients.
  • Meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

Physical Requirements:

Must be capable of sitting and/or standing for extended periods, managing stressful situations, multitasking, and working under time constraints. Long hours may be necessary.
