  • Execute refrigeration load assessments to ensure optimal performance.
  • Organize loads into suitable compressor suction groups for efficient operation.
  • Calculate the capacity of compressors and condensers, selecting new equipment as necessary.
  • Size all associated piping and pressure regulating valves accurately.
  • Demonstrate prior design experience across various system types, including condensing units, distributed systems, cascade systems, and secondary pumped systems.
  • Possess knowledge and practical experience with supermarket energy management systems (EMS).
  • Interpret and analyze complex mechanical, electrical, and architectural schematics.
  • Exhibit a willingness to learn about innovative system types, such as CO2 Transcritical systems.
  • Create refrigeration and EMS designs that adhere to client specifications and comply with all relevant local and state regulations.

Leadership Duties:

  • Delegate tasks effectively to team members, including engineering support staff and drafting technicians, to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Provide mentorship and training to fellow mechanical and refrigeration designers as required.
  • Review and endorse design work produced by team members, taking ownership when necessary.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in refrigeration design is required, along with an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

Alternatively, an associate degree with at least 5-8 years of relevant refrigeration design experience may be considered, provided the candidate can demonstrate the applicability of their experience to the outlined responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of discipline-specific codes and general building regulations.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership skills to educate clients and team members.
  • Collaborate with the project team to address scheduling, budgeting, site challenges, and design review matters.
  • Evaluate preliminary and final designs alongside other disciplines for functionality, clearances, and coordination.
  • Maintain client communication.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks on projects in collaboration with the technical manager or project engineer.
  • Uphold high standards of professional integrity while prioritizing the interests of both the company and the client.
  • Meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
