  • Conduct thorough surveys of existing systems, gathering essential architectural details, model identifiers, and overall condition.
  • Execute refrigeration load assessments.
  • Organize loads across suitable compressor suction groups.
  • Determine compressor and condenser capacities and select new equipment as necessary.
  • Size all associated piping, pressure-regulating valves, and related components.
  • Demonstrate prior design experience with various system types, including condensing units, distributed systems, cascade systems, and secondary pumped systems.
  • Possess knowledge and practical experience with supermarket energy management systems (EMS).
  • Interpret and analyze complex mechanical, electrical, and architectural blueprints.
  • Exhibit a willingness to learn about innovative system types, such as CO2 Transcritical systems.
  • Create refrigeration and EMS designs that adhere to client specifications and comply with all relevant local and state regulations.

Leadership Duties:

  • Delegate tasks to team members, including support engineering personnel and drafting technicians, to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Provide mentorship and training to fellow mechanical and refrigeration designers as needed.
  • Review, validate, and take responsibility for design outputs produced by team members when required.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in refrigeration design is mandatory, along with an EIT pursuing PE licensure.

Alternatively, an associate degree accompanied by at least 5-8 years of relevant refrigeration design experience demonstrating applicability to the job description is acceptable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Thorough understanding of discipline-specific codes and additional building regulations.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong leadership skills to educate clients and team members effectively.
  • Engage with the project team to review schedules, budgets, phasing, site challenges, and design evaluations.
  • Examine preliminary and final designs with other disciplines for functionality, clearances, and coordination.
  • Maintain client relationships.
  • Conduct quality assurance on projects in collaboration with the technical manager or project engineer.
  • Uphold high standards of professional integrity while prioritizing the interests of the company and clients.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Additional responsibilities as required.

Work Environment:
