PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Clinical Assistant plays a crucial role within the healthcare team. Collaborating closely with healthcare providers and colleagues, the Clinical Assistant addresses the needs of patients while upholding the mission of Lorain County Health & Dentistry. This position involves conducting 'nurse only' visits for tasks such as administering vaccinations and other essential services. EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid Ohio LPN License is mandatory.
  • BLS Certification is required.
  • Continuing Education Units (CEUs) must be completed as mandated by law to maintain licensure.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Proficient computer skills and the ability to learn specific software programs utilized by Lorain County Health & Dentistry, such as NextGen, EPM, and EHR.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a patient advocate and inspire positive change.
  • Capacity to maintain a calm and professional demeanor while engaging positively with patients.
  • Responsiveness to the needs of a culturally diverse patient population.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a focus on therapeutic interaction.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Collaborative spirit and ability to work effectively with others.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is advantageous.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Review and assess patients' medical histories.
  • Gather pertinent information from patients or their caregivers regarding current and past health conditions.
  • Collect relevant lifestyle and behavioral information from patients or caregivers.
  • Measure and record vital signs.
  • Administer prescribed medications.
  • Obtain and process specimens as instructed.
  • Assist healthcare providers during examinations and procedures, following the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) models of care.
  • Conduct inventories of clinical supplies.
  • Ensure exam rooms are well-stocked and organized.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary environment, ensuring medical equipment is functional.
  • Foster positive, professional relationships with patients and their caregivers.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on health maintenance and improvement techniques.
  • Adapt communication approaches based on the patient's age and cognitive development stage.
  • Promote health awareness throughout the facility through conversation and actions.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough records.
  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations consistently.
  • Uphold infection control standards in accordance with organizational policies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Frequent use of fine and gross motor skills.
  • Ability to lift supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • 75% of the time spent walking or standing, with 25% seated at a desk.
  • Category I exposure regarding blood, bodily fluids, and communicable diseases.
