Senior Cloud Operations Engineer at SmartFinancial

As a Senior Cloud Operations Engineer at SmartFinancial, you will be an integral part of our engineering leadership team. Your role will involve taking comprehensive ownership of critical infrastructure systems, directing their strategy, architecture, design, and execution.

In close collaboration with fellow leaders, business stakeholders, and engineers, you will contribute to defining roadmaps and achieving our strategic objectives.

Your duties will encompass establishing best practices, refining the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), and enhancing our infrastructure, tools, and processes to elevate the overall engineering function.

The ideal candidate is a proactive engineer with extensive experience in constructing AWS environments tailored for development teams. You excel at navigating organizational boundaries, mentoring engineers, and leading by example. Your capability to enhance and optimize every aspect you engage with will be vital to your success.

Key Responsibilities:
Cloud Environment Management:
Oversee the daily administration of cloud services, including proactive planning, issue resolution, and ensuring timely incident management within the cloud ecosystem.

Infrastructure Automation & Deployment:
Guarantee the seamless automation and deployment of infrastructure to support the delivery of SmartFinancial services.

AWS Environment Oversight:
Assume responsibility for the overall functionality and performance of the AWS environment, ensuring its reliability and efficiency.

Cloud Health & Cost Optimization:
Continuously monitor and enhance cloud health, automation processes, and cost management to drive operational excellence.

Maintenance & Diagnostics:
Lead routine maintenance tasks and conduct diagnostic tests to ensure system integrity and performance.

Incident Management:
Address ticket requests and manage escalated incidents promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to services.

Process Documentation & Metrics:
Document operational procedures and maintain comprehensive performance metrics to support ongoing optimization and transparency.

Cloud Architecture:
Design and implement robust cloud infrastructures on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform, focusing on optimal database and system architecture.

Mentorship & Guidance:
Provide mentorship and guidance on DevOps processes, methodologies, and best practices to foster the growth and development of the engineering team.

Compliance with Best Practices:
Ensure adherence to industry best practices in cloud administration and cybersecurity to maintain secure and efficient operations.

Expert Contributions:
Offer insights on information system options, assess risks, and evaluate operational impacts to facilitate informed decision-making within the organization.

On-Call Support:
Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, responding to operational and security events to ensure continuous service availability.

Collaboration:
Code and Script Updates:
Maintain and enhance existing scripts (e.g., Perl, Python, Ruby) by updating code and resolving errors in the development environment.

Installation and Configuration Management:
Oversee the installation and configuration of solutions to ensure the environment remains current and operational.

Collaboration with Technology & Security Teams:
Work closely with technology and security counterparts to support and enhance infrastructure and security measures.

Process Enhancement:
Partner with cross-functional teams to optimize application, system, security, and database processes, ensuring efficient operations.

Automation of Manual Processes:
Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, driving efficiency and reducing operational overhead.

GitHub Automation Development:
Create and maintain GitHub automations to streamline and enhance CI/CD pipelines, improving the overall development process.

Requirements:
  • AWS Certifications are a plus.
  • 7+ years of experience in AWS Cloud and DevOps environments.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development.
  • 2+ years of experience with web applications.
  • 2+ years of experience with GitHub Automation and CI/CD integrations.
  • Experience with database migrations, maintenance, and upgrades.
  • Ability to oversee and mentor junior engineers.
  • Ability to write maintenance scripts to debug and automate solutions.
  • Expertise in monitoring systems using CloudWatch and custom alerts.
  • Proficiency in documenting processes and monitoring performance metrics.

Familiarity with:
  • Automation / DevOps - Terraform, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, CloudFormation, CI/CD, GIT, Blue / Green Deployments, GitHub.
  • OWASP, SSL, TLS, Encryption.
  • AWS - EC2, IAM, RDS or Aurora, VPC, Route53, CloudWatch, S3, WAF, ECS, Fargate, Billing.
  • Bash, Shell, Ruby, Python, Linux (Amazon), Apache, Nginx.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package. The base salary range for this position is USD $130,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
