Position Overview

The Community Support Systems Direct Support Professional (CSSP DSP) plays a crucial role in assisting individuals with developmental disabilities to achieve independence in their living situations, whether in a family setting or a personal residence. This position is essential in enabling clients to engage in community activities, maintain employment, and enjoy leisure pursuits.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate support for clients, focusing on health and daily living skills.
  • Encourage appropriate behavior and respect for others in various environments.
  • Assist clients in achieving their goals as outlined in their personalized service plans.
  • Enhance community involvement through participation in various outings such as shopping, social events, and appointments.
  • Provide necessary transportation using a personal vehicle, ensuring compliance with state insurance and licensing requirements.
  • Document expenditures for clients and report to the Direct Care Supervisor.
  • Contribute insights during the annual service planning process.
  • Maintain accurate records of client progress and incidents.
  • Complete all required training, including orientation, safety, and first aid certifications.
  • Ensure timely submission of weekly documentation related to services provided.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and comprehend service plans and instructions.

Supervisory Role: This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates should possess a high school diploma or GED, along with relevant experience in human services or community support. Additional certifications in CPR/First Aid and a valid driver's license are required.


Physical Requirements:

This role involves regular physical activity, including lifting and moving clients and equipment. Candidates should be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform various physical tasks as needed.


Work Environment:

The work environment is typically moderate in noise level, with travel required primarily within the local area.
