Job Description

The Texas General Land Office is seeking a highly skilled Government Relations Specialist II to join our team. As a key member of our Government Relations Area, you will play a critical role in advancing the agency's legislative priorities and building strong relationships with state and local officials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in agency activities related to the legislative session, attending hearings and meetings with legislators, legislative staff, and other legislative liaisons.
  • Prepare comprehensive summaries and reports of these meetings and hearings.
  • Assist in creating fiscal impact statements and drafts background summaries, bill analyses, and other requested documents related to legislation and policy issues.
  • Proactively communicate with state and local officials, as well as with other state agencies, to facilitate coordination and collaboration.
  • Draft detailed responses to legislative inquiries, and meticulously review and edit correspondence to ensure accuracy and clarity.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in a field relevant to the assignment.
  • Two to three years of experience working with the federal or state legislature, legislative staff, or research services.
  • Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience representing the agency in Legislative Sessions, including attending legislative/congressional hearings, meetings, and other functions with legislative/congressional staff and other legislative/congressional liaisons.
  • Experience working for a Texas state agency and familiarity with Texas state laws and rules governing state agency administration and Legislation.
  • Familiarity with Texas state agency operations, including the Centralized Accounting and Personnel System (CAPPS).
