Job Summary

The Linda Hall Library seeks a highly skilled Security Manager to oversee the physical security operations of the institution. Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and communicate security protocols to ensure the safety of staff, patrons, and collections.
  • Conduct regular security audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential threats.
  • Act as the primary responder to internal and external security incidents and emergencies, liaising with law enforcement and other external agencies as required.
  • Enforce the Library's Patron Code of Conduct and escort trespassers and other unwelcome parties off the premises.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of security incidents, document findings, and maintain the incident reporting system.
  • Collaborate with the HR department to respond to staff incidents with discretion.
  • Administer and enforce practices and policies for physical security systems, including alarms, security cameras, and access control.
  • Maintain and update security procedures and documentation, staying informed about security trends and best practices.
  • Promote a culture of safety and security by providing ongoing security awareness training and education to staff.
  • Oversee the work of contracted security guards and manage multiple security vendors, ensuring compliance with policies and standards.
  • Prepare and present detailed security reports and statistics to senior management and stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in security management, criminal justice, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in security management, preferably within a public-facing organization such as a library, museum, or educational institution.
  • A Class B license with the City of Kansas City is required or must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of security principles, practices, systems, and technologies, evidenced by previous job experience, certifications, or training.
  • Ability to work a full-time schedule between 8:00 - 5:00 p.m., with flexibility for some evenings and weekends.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications, such as security management systems or incident reporting software.
  • Valid driver's license and eligibility for coverage under the company's insurance policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience protecting high-value cultural assets.
  • Knowledge of best practices in emergency preparedness and response for cultural institutions such as libraries or museums.
  • Security specialist certification, such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP).
  • Demonstrated experience supervising employees or as a team lead.
