Molecular Bioinformatics Expert

Position Overview:
The Bioinformatics Scientist will leverage expertise in health sciences and bioinformatics to address complex challenges faced by our clients in science and technology. This role involves supporting research and development initiatives, which include genetic and genomic analyses, clinical sequencing, microbial and viral sequencing, metagenomic assessments, pathogen investigations, and phylogenetic studies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize bioinformatics software and platforms to interpret data, collaborating closely with data scientists and software engineers to tackle large-scale, intricate technical issues within the public sector.
- Develop and implement machine learning, data mining, and statistical algorithms aimed at analyzing extensive datasets, ensuring the effective application and execution of these algorithms.
- Act as a liaison with clients, engaging in requirements gathering, process definition, data analysis, and presenting findings, while also contributing to the development of algorithm-driven products and solutions.
- Employ advanced consulting skills or substantial technical knowledge to devise innovative solutions for multifaceted problems.
- Work autonomously with minimal supervision, while also mentoring and guiding team members.
Essential Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in molecular biology, microbiology, genetics, or biochemistry, complemented by relevant coursework.
- Proficiency in R and experience in designing and executing machine learning, data mining, statistical, and graph algorithms.
- Familiarity with Linux systems and programming languages such as Python, Perl, Java, C++, and C#.
- Knowledge of PCR methodologies and next-generation sequencing technologies.
- Ability to articulate and convey complex scientific concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Capacity to operate independently with limited oversight.
- Strong collaborative skills and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of clients.
- Eligibility to obtain a security clearance.
- A Master's degree in Bioinformatics or Computational Biology.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with microbiological detection techniques and advanced PCR methods, including RT-PCR, multiplexing, and qPCR, as well as DNA isolation and characterization.
- Familiarity with next-generation sequencing and mass spectrometry techniques, including MALDI, ESI-Q, and HPLC.
- Publication experience in peer-reviewed journals.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- A Doctorate degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related discipline.

Selected applicants will undergo a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility criteria for access to classified information.
