Bioinformatics Scientist

Key Role:

Conduct and apply health science and bioinformatics expertise to science and technology client challenges. Support research and development, including genetic and genomic analysis, clinical, microbial, and viral sequencing, metagenomic analysis, pathogen analysis, and phylogenetic analysis. Leverage bioinformatics software and platforms to analyze data, applying expertise in working with data scientists and software engineers to solve large-scale, complex, and challenging technical problems in the public sector. Develop machine learning, data mining, and statistical and graph-based algorithms designed to analyze massive data sets and ensure the proper implementation and usage of algorithms. Serve as a client interface and participate in requirements gathering and analysis, process and systems definition, data analysis, presentation of analysis to the clients, and development of algorithm driven products and solutions. Apply advanced consulting skills or extensive technical expertise in developing innovative solutions to complex problems. Work without considerable direction, and mentor and supervise team members.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in molecular biology, microbiology, genetics, or biochemistry, including coursework
  • Experience with R and designing and implementing machine learning, data mining, statistics, and graph algorithms
  • Experience with Linux systems and programming using languages, including Python, Perl, Java, C++, and C #
  • Knowledge of PCR methods and NGS technologies
  • Ability to explain and present complex scientific concepts verbally and in writing
  • Ability to function independently with limited oversight
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and be flexible to meet evolving client needs
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics or Computational Biology

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with microbiological detection techniques, advanced PCR methods, including RT-PCR, multiplexing, and qPCR, and DNA isolation and characterization
  • Experience with next generation sequencing, and mass spectrometry, including MALDI, ESI-Q, and HPLC
  • Experience publishing articles in peer-reviewed publications
  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Doctorate degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $84,600.00 to $193,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees. This posting will close within 90 days from the Posting Date.
