Veterinary Care Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Veterinary Care Specialist to join our team at Banfield Pet Hospital. As a Relief Veterinarian, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality medical care to our furry patients.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure Patient Safety: Utilize safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and maintain clean, sterile, and organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
- Obtain Client Information: Gather relevant information and history from clients, and maintain proper and complete medical records.
- Client Education: Educate clients about preventative care, pet health needs, any diagnosis or treatment, hospital services, and other related information.
- Provide Exceptional Service: Prescribe and administer preventative care for the wellness needs of pets, diagnose and treat diseases and injuries of pets, and effectively communicate diagnosis and treatment plans to the veterinary medical team and clients.
- Compliance and Regulatory: Ensure local, state, and federal laws are followed, including proper maintenance of the controlled substance inventory log.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the veterinary medical team to ensure seamless patient care and excellent client service.
- Communication Skills: Read, write, and speak fluent English, using appropriate grammar, style, and vocabulary.
- Organizational Ability: Demonstrate a systematic approach in carrying out assignments and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Surgical Skills: Proven ability to perform all basic surgeries, including the use of all standard medical instruments and equipment.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrate a strong ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems, and translate problems into practical solutions.
- Client Service Skills: Consistently ensure the team provides attentive, courteous, and informative service to clients.
- Intellectual Ability: Accurately and consistently follow instructions delivered in an oral, written, or diagram format.
- Compassionate Commitment to Pet Care: Ensure hospital teams confidently present pet treatment recommendations and associated fees as an advocate for the pet, gaining the client's agreement to proceed with the treatment most appropriate to the pet's current condition and long-term health.
- Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, and to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and convert units of measurement.
- Computer Skills: Comfortably and confidently use a computer and specialized software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
- Management Ability: Effectively enforce policies, achieve high productive output while maintaining high morale, and encourage efforts toward common goals.
- Confidence Around Pets: Ability to be confident around pets, including dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and other animals.
- Client Needs and Work Volume: Client needs and work volume may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.
- Mental Processes: Mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics, and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
