Position Overview:
Act as the Manufacturing Engineering lead for Surface Mount Technology (SMT), printed circuit board assembly, and Conformal Coating for both new and existing electronic products.
Responsibilities
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitate the development of a proficient Manufacturing Engineering team to align with business objectives.
- Support the execution of the manufacturing strategy and oversee its technical application as necessary. Provide insights to improve productivity, quality, and safety.
- Transition critical issues such as quality, cycle time, cost reduction, and continuous improvement into actionable Manufacturing Engineering goals.
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Continuous Improvement, and Quality teams to prepare for daily production meetings.
- Serve as a mentor to junior staff on complex technical challenges. This role involves hands-on engineering to guide process development and enhancements.
- Define and manage projects aimed at identifying and implementing continuous yield and process improvements, ensuring cost-effective, high-quality, and efficient manufacturing capabilities.
- Assist the lead Manufacturing Engineering team in analyzing and addressing root causes of process challenges, developing and implementing sustainable solutions. Introduce new technologies and equipment for process optimization and cost efficiency.
- Guide the team in implementing and managing real-time Statistical Process Control (SPC) and utilizing Six Sigma methodologies to establish effective process controls.
Experience:
- Proficient in printed circuit board assembly equipment, methods, and processes including stencil selection, SMT component placement, reflow, wave and selective soldering, and optical inspection.
- Experience in the development of production equipment, tooling, and fixtures, including design and qualification.
- Knowledge of Statistical Process Control and Lean Manufacturing practices.
- Familiarity with inspection techniques and equipment.
- Demonstrated project management skills, capable of facilitating teams and negotiating with key suppliers. Engage with external vendors to procure high-quality equipment and fixtures.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to identify opportunities, assess product and equipment weaknesses, and resolve issues through consensus.
- Understanding of manufacturing documentation such as BOMs, Routers, and Manufacturing Instructions. Responsible for creating and maintaining production routers.
- Proficient in CAD software, including AutoCAD and SolidWorks, to generate engineering drawings.
- Competent in PC applications including MS Office, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks Design software.
- Hands-on experience and knowledge of high-density SMT assembly processes.
- Expertise in developing high-yield soldering processes.
- Experience with Conformal Coating applications.
- Proven experience in leading or managing technical teams.
- Successful track record in New Product Introduction (NPI) processes, collaborating closely with design engineering on advanced technology products and assembly requirements.
- Solid experience in monitoring and enhancing manufacturing processes using principles such as SPC, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and Kaizen.
- Knowledgeable in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and scaling products from NPI to full production.
- Thorough understanding of related SMT materials and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with advanced packaging and processing strategies for systems in package devices, including high layer count laminates and ceramic substrates.
- Strong hands-on engineering skills and troubleshooting experience with PCBA production equipment.
- Excellent written and organizational skills.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or Manufacturing Engineering. A Master's degree and/or MBA is advantageous.
- 5-8 years of experience in Manufacturing or Process Engineering within the electronics sector is required. A minimum of 2 years in a lead, supervisory, or managerial role is preferred.
