Position Overview:

The Production Process Technician is designated to a specific operation upon employment and is accountable for executing the process in accordance with established protocols, diagnosing operational issues, monitoring process data, conducting routine maintenance as required, and maintaining a tidy and organized workspace. Additionally, it is essential to ensure that all manufactured products and packaging adhere to stringent quality standards. Production Process Technicians are tasked with managing continuous vegetable oil refining operations and/or operating crystallization, filling, and packaging machinery efficiently and accurately.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Initiate and inspect machinery for preventive maintenance concerns, ensuring proper setup and functionality. Conduct minor repairs and adjustments as necessary. Prepare for shifts by ensuring all product-contact surfaces, such as piping, utensils, and containers, are sanitized and ready for use. Monitor operational conditions and document them on the process log as outlined in the operational guidelines.
  • Oversee the operation of crystallization and/or filling and packaging equipment to produce a high-quality product that meets customer specifications. This includes, but is not limited to, processing parameters, ingredient management, coding, rework, labeling, packaging, machinery setup, and operations including palletizing configurations for food-grade oils.
  • Collect process samples and implement necessary adjustments to maintain quality standards in accordance with operational procedures for vegetable oil refining processes, which include bleaching, bulk loading/unloading, deodorizing, refining, wastewater management, acidulation, oil transfer, and tank gauging/sampling.
  • Conduct quality inspections on lid placement, packaging integrity, weights, codes, and case evaluations to ensure compliance with all quality and customer specifications.
  • Review the daily production schedule to identify products to be processed and understand their specific requirements, following the established sequence for crystallization. Adhere strictly to batch sheets; any deviations must be approved and documented. Make necessary adjustments as authorized, monitor gauges, equipment, and temperatures, and maintain records of all batches produced, ingredients utilized, and processing parameters.
  • Execute sanitation tasks according to the processing schedule.
  • Ensure adequate levels of processing aids and supplies are maintained.
  • Achieve SIS scheduling targets, document production output, and complete all required paperwork accurately and promptly. Communicate any issues or concerns with relevant personnel, including during shift changes with incoming operators.
  • Adhere to all food safety policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including the current SQF code, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) along with associated preventive controls. Comply with all safety protocols, company policies, quality standards, and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points relevant to this role.
  • Perform other assigned duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Experience in a food manufacturing setting is preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong reading and mathematical skills to accurately fulfill job requirements.
  • Mechanical aptitude with proficient hand-eye coordination.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities with strong teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic computer systems.

Physical Requirements:
This role regularly involves sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Physical strength and dexterity are necessary to perform the required tasks. Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds or more with assistance may be required. Additional physical demands may apply.

Work Environment:
Work schedules may extend beyond normal business hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary. Employees may work outdoors and in varying temperatures, including extreme heat, cold, and humidity. Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibrations may occur. Personal protective equipment must be worn as mandated by established safety standards. Work may also be required in confined spaces and at heights exceeding 18 feet for extended periods.
