CLASS SUMMARY

The role involves executing advanced professional social work duties that necessitate significant public interaction and outreach to individuals in the community with social service requirements. This position collaborates closely with the Spokane Fire Department and behavioral health emergency services to address the needs of individuals facing challenges related to their mental and behavioral health as well as other social service requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts comprehensive needs evaluations, including mental health assessments, employing motivational interviewing and solution-focused techniques.
  • Designs and implements behavioral and mental health care strategies along with follow-up plans.
  • Coordinates cases with high levels of need, managing short-term interventions with an emphasis on crisis management.
  • Facilitates collaborative problem-solving for individuals, acting as a liaison among individuals, families, caregivers, and service providers.
  • Establishes and nurtures relationships with other community social service organizations.
  • Responds to inquiries for information and serves as a liaison with various City departments, divisions, agencies, and the community.
  • Engages in system planning, including participation in various committees.
  • Identifies obstacles and gaps in service delivery systems and advocates for necessary changes. Consults with management and other agency professionals on complex issues.
  • Promotes best practices in treatment methodologies, support systems, and interventions.
  • Contributes to program development and enhances best practices for community outreach.
  • Provides training on social service resources to frontline personnel. Attends and provides testimony at court hearings or other legal proceedings.
  • Maintains records, memos, correspondence, and reports related to social services activities.
  • Performs additional related duties as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Acceptable combinations of education and experience equivalent to the following minimum qualifications are permitted.
Open-Entry Requirements:
  • Education: A Master of Social Work degree (MSW) from an accredited institution.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Applicants must possess a valid driver's license, to be maintained throughout employment.
    • A Substance Use Disorder Professional Certification is advantageous, though not mandatory.
