Job Summary

This position is responsible for overseeing the entire operation and personnel of a shift in the packaging area, which involves ensuring compliance with safety protocols, quality control, environmental regulations, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety and Compliance
    • Lead by example in demonstrating clear safety standards and ensure employees understand and follow policies.
    • Responsible for general housekeeping of the area and coordinating medical attention in the event of an accident.
    • Ensure employees complete all safety and other training as required.
  • Quality and Food Safety
    • Responsible for auditing operators' documents to verify compliance with quality checks.
    • Notify the Quality Control department in the event of a food safety/quality issue and initiate a hold of the product.
    • Final review and approval of production and quality documentation.
  • Environmental Assurance and Compliance
    • Monitor and manage all aspects of the packaging operation that may have an impact on environmental assurance and compliance.
  • Productivity and Operations
    • Ensure employees get trained and qualified in specific roles to maintain high-performance operation of each packaging line.
    • Develop and utilize the operator-mechanic role through proper training and day-to-day coaching.
    • Support the use of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS - Maximo) and Loss Elimination Tracking.
    • Assure there is a process for prioritizing and scheduling work to meet production schedules.
    • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Employee Supervision and Development
    • Directly supervise employees in the Packaging Department.
    • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
    • Five or more years of packaging experience in the food industry preferred.
  • Knowledge and Skills
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to analyze data and change work behavior.
  • Equipment and Working Conditions
    • Computer and automated packaging equipment.
    • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and loud noise levels.
Decision Making and Accountability
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Responsible, self-starting, and self-managing trusted business partner and accountable for the Packaging Shift's overall operation.
