Mental Health Care Specialist

The Psychiatric Technician provides therapeutic care for individuals with mental illness, substance use disorders, and intellectual disorders. This role functions within a multidisciplinary treatment team under the supervision of professional staff. The Psychiatric Technician assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal care, and aids in recovery with a focus on social, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Acts as a subject matter expert to lower level staff and routinely handles more complex/challenging cases. Additional duties include acting as a preceptor and participating in quality improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
* Monitors patients' physical and emotional well-being and reports changes in behavior or physical ailments to professional staff.
* Responds to patient needs taking into consideration developmental stage and psychiatric symptoms
* Takes a mindful and thoughtful approach to all patient interactions, maintains appropriate boundaries.
* Functions within the patient care team focusing on successful treatment and stabilization
* Maintains a safe environment complying with NLH policies and procedures; reports and directly addresses environmental hazards and violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed.
* Cross trained with flexibility to work in two (2) other Inpatient/POU hospital services
* Provides one (1) educational presentation per year
* Participates in one (1) Quality Improvement project per year
* Acts as Preceptor and has completed Preceptor Program training
