About the Role

The University of Massachusetts Amherst Foundation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director, Donor Relations to join our team. This is a full-time hybrid position, and we are open to employees in select US states: Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive donor engagement strategies to ensure donors feel informed, engaged, and celebrated.
  • Design and deliver timely and effective donor communications, including acknowledgment letters and stewardship reports.
  • Provide careful stewardship of scholarship funds, ensuring donors are informed and have opportunities to connect with recipients.
  • Track the use of gift funds and develop impactful content for stewardship communications.
  • Collaborate with the Development team and SBS Dean's Office to create individualized engagement plans for major gift donors and prospects.
  • Develop and implement unique stewardship touchpoints for major and principal gift donors, aligning with their individual plans.
  • Work with Annual Giving, central Donor Relations, and Development teams to create specialty acknowledgments and stewardship for donor groups and programs.
  • Contribute to college development team meetings, including donor strategy conversations, and attend development officer meetings, professional development activities, and other staff meetings as appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to policies and procedures for accepting, recording, and acknowledging gifts.
  • Commit to growth on diversity, equity, and inclusion topics, considering how to expand inclusivity of projects, relationships, and activities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and five years of experience in fundraising, alumni relations, event management, stewardship, and communications.
  • Demonstrated understanding of philanthropy and donor experience principles, particularly in higher education and institutionally related foundations.
  • Knowledge of scholarship award management and prior experience in stewardship and endowment reporting.
  • Ability to quickly gain knowledge of UMAF and SBS programs, donors, and supporters.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • High degree of integrity, respect for individuals, and ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Ability to problem solve, adapt to change, and manage multiple projects from start to finish.
  • High level computer skills, including Microsoft software, Adobe Photoshop, and HTML.
