About the Role

The Director of Development is a key member of the UMass Amherst Foundation team, responsible for building and managing a portfolio of prospective donors capable of making gifts of $25,000 or more. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of campaign fundraising priorities, regular meetings with prospects and donors, and collaboration with development colleagues and Fine Arts Center leaders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Actively manage a portfolio of donors and prospective donors, ensuring continuous progress in moving assigned donors through the donor cycle.
  • Meet or exceed annual fundraising goals, focused on soliciting major gifts, closing major gifts, and conducting personal visits.
  • Collaborate with central advancement on major gift proposals and create strategic plans for donors.
  • Prepare donor briefings and written correspondence for senior leadership, and participate in key events and committees to cultivate relationships with donors and internal partners.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 5 years of prior experience with face-to-face fundraising in higher education or other non-profit organizations.
  • Willingness to travel 50% of the time, including overnight and occasional weekends.
  • Ability to engage and effectively communicate with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to problem solve, adapt to change, and successfully manage multiple projects.
