Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Classroom Assistant to join our team at Oregon Coast Community Action. As a key member of our childcare team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and education to young children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide responsive care and support to children, promoting their growth and development.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment, adhering to Head Start Performance Standards and State Licensing Rules.
  • Collaborate with the teaching team to deliver developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor learning experiences.
  • Support children's social-emotional and behavioral health through positive guidance strategies.
  • Perform classroom and playground safety checks, ensuring a secure environment for children.
  • Document services provided and maintain accurate records, adhering to federal, state, and program documentation requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution within the team.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Infant/Toddler or Preschool Childhood Development Associate (CDA) credential, or enrolled in a CDA program.
  • Oregon Registry Step 7 or higher, or enrolled in a program to achieve this level within 2 years.
  • Paid experience working with infants/toddlers or preschoolers is preferred.

Work Environment:

  • Geographic Area: Coos, Curry, and Coastal Douglas Counties.
  • Primary Worksite: May involve lifting items up to 51 pounds, regular kneeling, bending, and sitting on the floor, and occasional events outside of the office at irregular hours.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in the Oregon Department of Education-Child Care Division Central Background Registry at time of hire and update it as required.
  • Pediatric First Aid/CPR Certification within 30 days of hire and update it as required.
  • Oregon Food Handler's card or ServSafe Food Safety Certification within 30 days of hire and update it as required.
  • Health Appraisal within 30 days of hire and update it as required.
  • A current Oregon Driver's License is required.
  • Proof of automobile liability insurance with $100,000/300,000 liability limits and maintain such limits.
  • Reliable transportation for getting to work.
  • Must be free from illegal drugs, may be subject to suspicion testing.
