GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This position involves performing moderately complex licensing and permitting tasks within a Regional Operations office of the Driver License Division. Responsibilities include evaluating and processing applications for licenses and permits, ensuring adherence to relevant policies, administrative codes, and legal statutes. The role requires effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders, as well as the authority to approve applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Engage with the public in a professional manner, addressing inquiries related to various driver licenses and identification cards, traffic laws, and departmental services.
  2. Assess the legal requirements for applicants and ensure that application forms meet qualification standards. Approve applications in accordance with state regulations and agency policies.
  3. Conduct preliminary evaluations of applicants' physical driving capabilities, including vision assessments and referrals to medical professionals when necessary.
  4. Inspect vehicles for safety compliance prior to conducting road tests and verify financial responsibility.
  5. Certify drivers as reasonable risks or disapprove applications deemed unreasonable.
  6. Utilize external systems to verify applicants' eligibility for licensing.
  7. Issue licenses and permits, manage fee collections, and maintain accurate financial records.
  8. Review and verify the accuracy of application documents and related certifications.
  9. Inform applicants about suspensions, cancellations, and revocations, providing guidance on how to qualify for reinstatement.
  10. Administer various tests to applicants, including written and oral examinations, and schedule driving tests as necessary.
  11. Conduct comprehensive evaluations during road tests, providing feedback on driving performance and recommending actions for improvement.
  12. Offer administrative and technical support regarding licensing and permitting processes to the public and agency staff.
  13. May provide training to colleagues and assist in the operation of office equipment.
  14. Prepare daily reports and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  15. Adhere to safety standards and best practices in all work activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: At least one year of experience in customer service or office administration. Cash handling experience is preferred.

Licensure: A valid driver license is required, with the expectation of obtaining a Texas license within a specified timeframe if relocating.

Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, organizational abilities, and proficiency in technology and software applications are essential. Candidates must demonstrate attention to detail and the ability to handle confidential information responsibly.

This role may require extended hours and occasional travel to various locations for training or operational needs.
