Job Description

This is a complex security enforcement role that involves monitoring and patrolling grounds, checking employees and visitors in and out of the facility, inspecting and safeguarding buildings, properties, and equipment, and maintaining facility security and traffic control. The successful candidate will work under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Controls entrance to the gatehouse and all secured buildings on the facility by confirming authorized admittance or departure before unlocking doors.
  • Monitors and/or patrols buildings and grounds outside secure facility area; watches for unauthorized persons, fires, and unusual occurrences; and reports emergencies upon discovery.
  • Monitors cameras and records incidents throughout campus.
  • Monitors front and rear sallyport gates controlling vehicle entry and exit traffic, including deliveries and contractor traffic.
  • Monitors all vehicle traffic on the facility.
  • Makes emergencies notifications as needed and initiates all emergency calls as required.
  • Greets visitors and maintains records/logs of all persons/vehicles entering and exiting the facility.
  • Monitors all radio transmissions.
  • Issues and collects keys, maintains key control of entrance, and checks by telephone to determine if admission/departure is permitted.
  • Collaborates with facility staff in meeting established objectives and goals; shares information, identifies concerns and trends; and recommends improvements to resolve problems or enhance operations.
  • Identifies, reports, confronts, and/or apprehends persons/suspects in cases of unauthorized entry into state buildings and work areas, malicious mischief, or other violations.
  • Monitors outcomes for racial, ethnic and gender disparities and takes action to address identified disparities.
  • Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Preferred Requirements: Level II or III security guard license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Military police experience, Military experience, Experience in the use of firearms.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of: Secure facility gatehouse operations, Emergency reporting procedures.
  • Skill in: Meeting and handling individuals entering and exiting a security environment, Monitoring and assessing situations, Determining appropriate response, Use of monitoring, surveillance, and detection equipment.
  • Ability to: Enforce security rules and regulations, Remain alert, observant, and physically able to respond appropriately to work situations or emergencies including, but not limited to, physical restraint of youth, React quickly and calmly in emergency situations, Communicate effectively, Maintain and keep accurate records, files, or logs, Train others, Conduct fire drills, Analyze situations quickly and take effective action, Prioritize and manage multiple tasks, Work collaboratively with all stakeholders and maintain a professional, courteous demeanor, Process information logically, make decisions, and demonstrate the soundness of those decisions, Successfully complete a written exercise and physical fitness assessment, Work in excess of 40 hours per work week and be on-call.
