Job Overview

SUMMARY: The Quality Inspector will be responsible for assessing the quality of all incoming and outgoing materials and products, as well as evaluating production processes. This role is crucial in promoting quality standards within SMS group Inc. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, reliability, and a strong commitment to quality assurance. A thorough understanding of quality standards and proficiency in using precision measuring instruments is vital.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct measurements of manufactured components to ensure compliance with manufacturing specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers to define design tolerances.
  • Verify incoming materials by confirming specifications through visual and measurement tests, and manage the rejection and return of non-compliant materials.
  • Perform final and in-process inspections of components and prototype parts utilizing tools such as FARO Arm, micrometers, calipers, hardness testers, scales, and surface finish gauges.
  • Review detailed drawings to ensure accurate documentation of specifications.
  • Maintain calibration of measuring instruments.
  • Inspect in-process production by confirming specifications and communicating necessary adjustments to the production supervisor.
  • Approve finished products by confirming specifications and conducting visual and measurement tests, including managing re-work processes.
  • Document inspection outcomes by completing reports and logs, summarizing re-work and waste, and entering data into the quality database.
  • Ensure measurement equipment is operational by adhering to operating instructions and calibration requirements, and requesting repairs as needed.
  • Promote a safe and healthy work environment by following established standards and procedures, and complying with legal regulations.
  • Enhance job knowledge through participation in educational opportunities and reviewing technical publications.
  • Contribute to the quality and organizational mission by achieving related results as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a precision manufacturing environment with expertise in operating measuring equipment.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and understand product specifications and requirements.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards.
  • Capability to measure close tolerances accurately.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with quality control methodologies such as Six Sigma.
  • Proficient in using measuring devices including meters, gauges, computers, calipers, and other precision instruments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Good hand/eye coordination.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
