Job Summary

The Clinical Unit Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Emergency Department at Desert Regional Medical Center. This leadership role requires a strong clinical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage human resources effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management
    • Provide guidance and direction to the telemetry staff in the care of telemetry/progressive care patients and associated interventional cardiology protocols and medication.
    • Obtain and interpret information to meet the needs of patients.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development and understand the range of treatment needed for patients of various ages.
  • Human Resources Management
    • Participate in the management of human resources through assisting, evaluating, counseling, and hiring staff.
    • Ensure that current criteria-based job performance standards and applicable competencies exist for each member of the staff.
    • Complete performance evaluations in a timely fashion for both annual and probationary evaluations.
  • Operational Management
    • Facilitate the completion and timely submission of human resource documentation.
    • Counsel and discipline staff in a timely manner.
    • Interview and hire staff.
    • Coordinate timely attendance at hospital orientation and mandatory continuing education programs for employees.
  • Quality Improvement
    • Maintain current records on all employees, including yearly certification, current licensure, evidence of continuing education, and compliance with unit competencies.
    • Obtain feedback from others within the department and collaborate with the Director on mechanisms for improvement.
    • Communicate concerns through proper written and verbal channels and utilize problem-solving skills to suggest mechanisms for correction.
  • Strategic Planning
    • Assist in the development of a department strategic plan.
    • Facilitate and support the clinical strategic plan.
    • Facilitate and support the organizational strategic plan.
  • Professional Development
    • Maintain current knowledge and expertise in the specialty field of the department and of regulatory agencies.
    • Assist in the collection of data for unit-based improvement and other ongoing reviews that serve as quality trending.
    Requirements
    • Education
      • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)
    • Certifications
      • Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS Certification
    • Experience
      • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience
    • Skills
      • Demonstrated clinical competence and leadership skills
      • Demonstrated ability to present self in a positive and professional manner
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Previous management experience
