Aviation Operations Assistant

ABOUT THE ROLE: The Aviation Operations Assistant position is part of the Aviation Department and is responsible for a variety of emergency and routine tasks related to traffic and parking enforcement, access control, monitoring landside and non-secure areas, and other aviation-related activities. This role provides essential support to the Airport Operations and Airport Security divisions.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Core Functions:
  • Assist, guide, and deliver customer service to travelers and stakeholders; monitor and enforce curbside traffic, airport roadways, parking lots, and loading/unloading zones; issue violation citations as necessary.
  • Maintain vigilance and visibility at assigned locations; patrol designated landside and non-secured areas of the airport, reporting hazards, unsafe conditions, and suspicious activities.
  • Conduct routine inspections and patrols of landside and non-secured areas; ensure compliance with relevant regulations and respond to violations.
  • Assist in responding to various situations, including Security Access Control System (SACS) violations, and take appropriate enforcement actions.
  • Respond to emergencies; initiate airport emergency operations and assist with emergency services and communications.
  • Utilize radios, cell phones, and electronic devices to enter and retrieve data; operate vehicles and conduct monthly inventory of assigned equipment.
  • Support the Airport Operations Manager and supervisors in operational and security duties.
  • Manage taxi dispatching and enforce commercial vehicle policies; resolve conflicts involving ground transportation drivers and customers.
  • Handle public parking duties, including collecting fees and managing unusual transactions.
  • Record vehicle license numbers and monitor parking facility usage.
  • Patrol parking facilities to enhance security and assist patrons.
  • Direct traffic in and out of parking areas to alleviate congestion.
  • Provide customer shuttle services to parking areas as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Represent the Aviation Department to other divisions and agencies.
  • Provide escort services as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications must be clearly demonstrated on the application to be considered.

Experience:
  • One year of experience involving significant public interaction is required.
  • Aviation experience or work at an airport is preferred.
Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Additional specialized training in airport operations or related fields is preferred.
Licenses/Certificates:
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
  • Ability to obtain a valid CPR Certificate is required.
  • Ability to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge is required.
Working Conditions:
The work environment includes exposure to various weather conditions, noise, and potentially hazardous situations.
