Job Summary

This position is responsible for alternating between Residential Counselor and Shift Supervisor roles. When functioning as the Relief Shift Supervisor, the position is responsible for oversight and operations of the shift and ensures the general supervision of the residential staff of the program. The position is responsible for consumer care and implementation and documentation of treatment activities. When functioning as the Residential Counselor, the position is responsible for providing consumer care and is responsible for consumer care and implementation and documentation of treatment activities. All positions exist to promote the pursuit of independence for all consumers served.


Available Shifts:

  • Sunday through Thursday 7:00am- 3:00pm (Relief Shift Supervisor shifts are Sunday and Monday, Residential Counselor shifts are Tuesday through Thursday)
  • Tuesday through Saturday 3:00pm- 11:00pm (Relief Shift Supervisor shifts are Friday and Saturday, Residential Counselor shifts are Tuesday through Thursday)
  • $18 an hour when working as a Relief Shift Supervisor, $16 an hour when working as a Residential Counselor

Pay Rate:

$16.00 an hour when working as a Residential Counselor

$18.00 an hour when working as a Relief Shift Supervisor


Essential Functions

Residential Counselor Essential Functions:

· Participate in the development and implementation of individualized service plans, treatment activities, case conferences, etc.

· Consistently assess, teach, evaluate, and supervise consumer's skills in the area of daily living, meal planning, housekeeping, vocational, social and recreational needs.

· Execute professional daily progress notes, logbook entries and other related paperwork as required.

· Assist and supervise consumers in the planning, initiation and participation of social and recreational activities.

· Monitor, assess and report each consumer's need for additional or replacement clothing or personal items as applicable.

· Monitor kitchen, housekeeping and linen supplies for consumer's and keep supervisor informed of needs.

· Review emergency procedures with consumers on a regular basis.

· Respond appropriately to emergency situations.

· Transport clients as necessary/appropriate.

· Perform job within framework of agency, site and professional standards.

· Participate in staff meetings and training programs.

· Participate in supervision on an on-going basis.

· Attend and participate in agency events.

· Adhere to agency/site policies and procedures.

· Project a positive attitude and image to clients, family members and outside contacts.

· Cooperate with other staff and exhibit positive attitude toward position and agency mission.

· Use appropriate communication channels.

· Participate in achievement of agency goals and mission.

· Display motivation and interest in working creatively with people who have disabilities.

· Demonstrate the ability to make sound judgements regarding the welfare of consumers.

· Possess knowledge of basic principles and methods of rehabilitation.

· Provide casework services to aid residents in adjusting to their specific situations.

· Maintain cleanliness of work areas, including assisting with maintenance of the kitchen, common areas, linen closets, medication storage areas, and staff office.

· Take regular responsibility in shift activities, including but not limited to site trash removal, changing linens, making beds, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning common areas which include but are not limited to the living room, kitchen, foyer, dining area, and hallways.

· Assist consumers with maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of their individual rooms and their residence.

· Assist or prepare various foods for consumer meals as required. Ensure that any and all dietary considerations are followed. Food shopping must be completed, and dietary preferences/concerns will need to be considered.

· Locate and access community medical resources for consumer needs as applicable and as instructed.

· Supervise and assist with consumer medication regiment including PRN medications.

· Assist consumers who are on smoking precautions with cigarette dispensing.

· Perform occasional administrative activities, including but not limited to filing, copying, compilation, and collation of paperwork.

· Assist consumers with personal care needs including assisting/encouraging consumers with daily showers, tooth brushing and other hygienic activities, eating meals, getting dressed, mobility issues, etc. · Encourage consumers to toilet properly if applicable.

· Ensure consumers participate in appropriate daily activities. Ensure that documentation is completed. · Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned.


Relief Shift Supervisor Essential Functions:

· Supervise on-duty staff by providing instruction, leadership, example, and suggestions as appropriate.

· Ensure coverage for each shift through various means: shift supervisor covering it, asking on-duty employees to remain, calling staff roster, etc.

· Provide adequate information exchange at end of shift with on-coming supervisor or staff.

· Plan shift operations of the site including shift assignments, reporting all problems to the Program Supervisor/Coordinator or On-call supervisor via the established communication channel.

· Assist in providing an orientation for new employees in agency's and facility's philosophy, policies and procedures.

· Report all concerns regarding staff to Program supervisor/designee.

· Attend and participate in supervision.

· Participate in the development and implementation of individualized service plans, treatment activities, case conferences, etc.

· Assist consumers in planning, coordination, and implementation of daily, evening, and weekend social and recreational activities.

· Participate in the development of individual service plans designed to improve the social and self-care skills of program clients.

· Review emergency procedures with consumers on a regular basis.

· Locate and access community medical resources for consumer needs as applicable and as instructed.

· Supervise and assist with consumer medication regimen including PRN medications.

· Perform occasional administrative activities, including but not limited to filing, copying, compilation, and collation of paperwork.

· Assist with employee relations counseling, unemployment, and exit interviewing.

· Attends and participates in regular supervision.

· Responds appropriately to emergency situations.

· Performs job within framework of agency, site, and professional standards.

· Participates in staff meetings and training programs.

· Attends and participates in agency events.

· Adheres to agency/site policies and procedures including HIPAA requirements.

· Cooperates and coordinates with Regional Director on all operational issues.

· Projects a positive attitude and image to staff, participants, family members, and outside contacts.

· Uses appropriate communication channels.

· Completes assignments independently and within specified time frames.

· Participates in achievement of agency objectives, goals, and mission.

· Displays motivation and interest in working creatively with people who have mental illness/disabilities.

· Demonstrates the ability to make sound judgements regarding the welfare of people served.

· Displays ability to take direction.

· Demonstrates knowledge of basic principles and methods of clinical psychology and psychiatric rehabilitation.

· Follows agency dress code.

4 Qualifications Required Education:

· High School Diploma or GED Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree Field of study: Bachelor's degree in related field, or

· Associate's degree with two years of related work experience or

· High School Diploma/GED plus two years of related work and life experience.


Work Experience:

· 1 to 2 years Certifications, Licenses, Registrations Required:

· Valid Driver's License, CPRP/RPRP Certification is preferred.
