Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Ammonia Refrigeration Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and safety of ammonia refrigeration systems within the facility. This position involves executing preventive maintenance, diagnosing issues, and performing both mechanical and electrical repairs to maintain optimal operational conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair anhydrous ammonia (NH3) refrigeration systems and associated machinery
  • Conduct daily safety assessments, detect and rectify leaks, and ensure accurate temperature monitoring
  • Regularly assess and enhance techniques, procedures, facilities, and equipment
  • Work collaboratively with maintenance, production, and processing teams to optimize equipment uptime
  • Identify and propose enhancements for equipment and overall operational efficiency
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards and maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Perform routine safety inspections on various equipment and verify the functionality of safety mechanisms
  • Take on additional projects and responsibilities as required

Qualifications:

  • Safety-oriented with the capability to operate safely around complex automated machinery
  • A collaborative team member with strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experienced in troubleshooting utility equipment, including ammonia refrigeration systems, boilers, and wastewater treatment systems
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in ammonia refrigeration, ideally in roles such as Utilities Mechanic / Technician, Refrigeration Technician, Refrigeration Mechanic, or Ammonia Operator
  • Preferred certifications in Ammonia Refrigeration (CIRO, CARO, Industrial Refrigeration Operator, RETA, etc.) and/or boiler operation
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) is advantageous
