Job Overview

Position Summary:

As a Refrigeration Systems Technician, your primary responsibility will be to conduct preventive maintenance, diagnose issues, and perform both mechanical and electrical repairs to ensure the ammonia refrigeration systems and facility operate safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair anhydrous ammonia (NH3) refrigeration systems and associated equipment
  • Perform daily safety assessments, detect and rectify leaks, and ensure accurate temperature monitoring
  • Regularly assess techniques, processes, facilities, and equipment for efficiency
  • Work collaboratively with maintenance, production, and processing teams to enhance machine availability
  • Identify and suggest enhancements for equipment and overall operational effectiveness
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards and maintain a tidy and safe work environment
  • Conduct scheduled safety evaluations of various equipment and confirm all safety mechanisms are functional
  • Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed

Qualifications:

  • Safety-oriented with the capability to operate safely on intricate, automated machinery
  • A collaborative team member with strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experienced in troubleshooting utility equipment, including Anhydrous Ammonia (NH3) refrigeration systems, boilers, and wastewater treatment facilities
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in ammonia refrigeration, ideally in roles such as Utilities Mechanic / Technician, Refrigeration Technician, Refrigeration Mechanic, Ammonia Operator, or similar
  • Preferred certifications or training in Ammonia Refrigeration (CIRO, CARO, Industrial Refrigeration Operator, RETA, etc.) and/or boiler operation
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) is advantageous
