Piasecki Aircraft Corporation (PiAC) is a pioneering firm established in 1955, focusing on research and development in the realm of rotorcraft and unmanned aerial vehicles. With a legacy of over 25 innovative VTOL and UAV aircraft, Piasecki is at the forefront of advancing vertical flight technologies.

Position Summary:

The Quality Assurance Engineer at Piasecki Aircraft Corporation will play a crucial role in spearheading the design and execution of testing protocols to fulfill specific project objectives. This role requires close collaboration with a dedicated team of engineers to create, develop, and implement testing strategies aimed at gathering actionable insights to ensure the reliable and safe operation of various systems and components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teams to identify project requirements and formulate plans for efficient testing activities.
  • Analyze similarities across diverse applications to suggest platform components and subsystems that align with both current and future demands.
  • Establish timelines and resource estimates for project development from initial concept through to production, encompassing tooling, labor, and cost considerations.
  • Document testing requirements and break them down into component and integration specifications as necessary for each testing setup.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including relevant data visualizations and tables for later stages of testing.
  • Engage with the engineering team to assign requirements, evaluate trade-offs, conduct design reviews, and ensure effective test execution and data reporting.
  • Oversee the technical facets of testing, integration, and validation processes, providing updates to integrated project teams.
  • Conduct thorough post-test evaluations of systems, focusing on physical, electrical, and control architecture aspects, with an emphasis on safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead or participate in system, subsystem, and vehicle-level Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and formulate design guidelines.
  • Coordinate with procurement, testing, manufacturing, and external suppliers as necessary to ensure project success.
  • Develop and implement test plans and reliability validation strategies prior to system integration.
  • Facilitate root-cause analysis and resolution of issues.
  • Identify and communicate potential risks associated with design, development, and implementation of products and subsystems, collaborating with the team to prioritize and execute mitigation strategies.
  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of processes, tools, documentation, and training materials to sustain organizational capabilities.
  • Mentor junior engineers and assist in their professional growth.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in system development, particularly in VTOL systems or related fields.
  • Comprehensive understanding of various vehicle architectures, systems, and subsystems, including component design and selection.
  • Experience with mechanical systems and engines, particularly in thermal testing.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical/software testing and analysis tools.
  • Proven track record in product development.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in engineering problem-solving methodologies.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively without direct authority.
  • Experience working in cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams.
  • Advanced skills in design/analysis software, Python, and Microsoft Office applications.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering; a graduate degree is preferred.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
