Job Description

**Reliability Engineer - Asset Optimization Specialist**

We are seeking a highly skilled Reliability Engineer to join our team at PQ, a leading global provider of silicates, silicas, and derivative products. As a Reliability Engineer, you will play a critical role in developing and maintaining programs and systems that consistently shift the maintenance and operation of our site's facilities to a more proactive, data-driven, and condition-based asset management approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement equipment maintenance plans, including equipment checks and Preventive & Predictive Maintenance (PPM)
  • Perform PPM effectiveness assessments at regular intervals
  • Assess and develop the capability of mechanics in their role in reliability improvement
  • Define Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) trigger points and implement corrective and improvement plans resulting from the RCFAs
  • Perform and document equipment criticality analysis
  • Analyze data (failure, cost) using appropriate reliability analysis tools to develop and implement improvement plans
  • Lead reliability improvement teams and perform or arrange for physical failure analysis
  • Work with plant engineering, purchasing, and plant's stores organizations to develop and execute appropriate Design for Reliability principles for Capital projects
  • Assess the effectiveness of QA practices
  • Work with plant's inspector group to ensure appropriate inspection technologies are being used and assessing the quality of inspection plans
  • Review inspection reports and analyze data to determine fitness for service, quality of inspection, appropriate inspection interval, etc.
  • Use Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) methodologies to determine appropriate inspection methodologies and intervals

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering degree with 5-10 years of functional chemical industry experience
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment design and detailed understanding of maintenance and reliability activities associated with process equipment such as centrifugal pumps, piping systems, pressure vessels, (including heat exchangers), atmospheric storage tanks, positive displacement pumps, relief devices, and compressors of various design
  • Knowledge of API; ASME, and ISO industry standards for fixed and rotating equipment
  • Capable of writing mechanical design packages for highly hazardous chemical processes
  • Basic understanding of Reliability tools and techniques including:
    • Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
    • Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA)
    • Predictive techniques for fixed, rotating, power distribution equipment, and instrumentation (vibration analysis, nondestructive testing, thermography)
    • Fixed equipment diagnostic technologies
  • Must have very good oral and written communication skills
  • Must have a demonstrated proficiency with personal computers and all basic software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must have demonstrated team building and influence/negotiation skills

EHS Responsibilities:

  • Communicates, promotes, and personally demonstrates Safety/Health (including PQP Principles) as #1 priority
  • Participation in risk assessment audits as applicable
  • Understand PQ Principles (PQP) and how they are implemented in the site organization, rules, and procedures
  • Completes HSE training requirements identified for the job in a timely manner
