Job Summary

Thompson Engineering is seeking a highly skilled Survey Instrument Technician to join our team in Mobile, AL. As a key member of our land surveying department, you will provide critical support to our Surveyor Party Chief in collecting survey data using designated survey equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain survey equipment, including total stations, digital levels, and data collectors.
  • Collect and record survey data, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Assist in loading and unloading survey equipment from company vehicles.
  • Travel to job sites and stay overnight as required.
  • Conduct all work activities in compliance with Thompson Engineering's Health, Safety & Environmental Management System.

Requirements:

  • Five years of experience in surveying commercial and/or heavy industrial construction stakeout.
  • Working knowledge of GPS software using Topcon Hyperlite.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License and TWIC card.
  • Ability to read and comprehend measurements, with intermediate math skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work in outdoor environments up to 100% of the time.
  • Lift a minimum of 50lbs and remain standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and climb ladders.
  • Drive company vehicles to and from job sites.
