Responsibilities:
  1. Utilize approved personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary to disinfect and decontaminate surgical/clinic items and instrumentation.
  2. Retrieve soiled supplies/equipment from soiled holding areas from various departments throughout the hospital per schedule and as needed.
  3. Sort, disassemble, select, and perform the correct process to decontaminate items.
  4. Clean, maintain, and operate a variety of decontamination equipment.
  5. Follow established procedures to select the appropriate high-level disinfection method, manual or automatic (AER), for heat-sensitive instruments, equipment, or flexible endoscopes.
  6. Document receipt and all work in a timely manner using tracking software.
  7. Document all work performed using instrument tracking software.
  8. Inspect and assemble all equipment, instruments, scopes, and instrument sets following product recipe, verifying items are functional, free of debris, and required per instrument recipe.
  9. Document items missing from instrument sets, escalating sets to Supervisor or Designee for further guidance.
  10. Identify and place appropriate internal indicators as required.
  11. Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times.
  12. Interpret package labeling to select the appropriate sterilization method and approved cycle, options include Steam, Low Temperature, or other as required.
  13. Inspect packages to ensure all external indicators, filters, and/or labels are securely affixed to items and correct deficiencies before sterilization.
  14. Load sterilizer as necessary to ensure cycle completion, including biological testing.
  15. Perform routine sterilizer testing, including biological monitoring, leak test, and Bowie Dick test as necessary.
  16. Follow established policies and document results of sterilizer testing using tracking software.
  17. Escalate positive results as necessary for intervention.
  18. Remove and inspect items from sterilizer using approved methods to preserve package integrity.
  19. Utilize proper body mechanics when moving equipment/supplies weighing up to 50 lbs and autoclave carts weighing up to 200 lbs.
  20. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  21. Regular and prompt attendance.
  22. Ability to learn new skill sets quickly and perform consistently with accuracy.
  23. Ability to communicate effectively with a courteous and professional attitude.
  24. Ability to work within a team environment.
  25. Ability to multi-task is critical.
  26. Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.
