Job Summary:

USA Health is seeking a highly skilled Sterile Processing Technician to join our team at University Hospital. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.

Responsibilities:

• Utilize approved personal protective equipment (PPE) to disinfect and decontaminate surgical and clinic items and instrumentation.
• Retrieve soiled supplies and equipment from various departments throughout the hospital, sorting, disassembling, and selecting the correct process to decontaminate items.
• Clean, maintain, and operate a variety of decontamination equipment, following established procedures and selecting the appropriate high-level disinfection method for heat-sensitive instruments and equipment.
• Document receipt and work in a timely manner using tracking software, ensuring accurate and thorough records of all work performed.
• Inspect and assemble equipment, instruments, scopes, and instrument sets, verifying items are functional, free of debris, and meet the required standards.
• Identify and place internal indicators as required, maintaining a clean and organized work area at all times.
• Interpret package labeling to select the appropriate sterilization method and approved cycle, ensuring all external indicators, filters, and labels are securely affixed to items before sterilization.
• Load sterilizers as necessary to ensure cycle completion, including biological testing, and perform routine sterilizer testing, including biological monitoring, leak testing, and Bowie-Dick testing as required.
• Follow established policies and document results of sterilizer testing using tracking software, escalating positive results as necessary for intervention.
• Remove and inspect items from sterilizers, utilizing approved methods to preserve package integrity, and utilize proper body mechanics when moving equipment and supplies.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Working Conditions:

This role requires the ability to stand for long periods, move equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds, and work within a team environment. Regular and prompt attendance is essential, as is the ability to learn new skill sets quickly and perform consistently with accuracy.
