Position Overview

Role Duration: This position operates in alignment with the school calendar, providing essential support to children during designated hours.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, with morning and afternoon shifts available. Flexibility for additional meetings and training sessions is required.

Position Summary: Under the guidance of the Site Director, the Child Care Assistant will oversee children’s activities, implement engaging programs, and ensure a safe and nurturing environment. This role emphasizes the core values of Glow YMCA: integrity, respect, accountability, and compassion. This is a part-time role averaging under 30 hours weekly.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and execute daily or weekly lesson plans within established frameworks, fostering enthusiasm for various activities.
  2. Supervise children and maintain a safe, organized environment during all activities.
  3. Conduct regular observations and assessments of each child's progress.
  4. Ensure the program area and equipment are well-maintained.
  5. Engage in family events, program activities, staff meetings, and training sessions.
  6. Support the holistic development of children, addressing their physical, intellectual, social, and emotional needs.
  7. Collaborate with team members to plan and execute activities effectively.
  8. Provide direct supervision to assigned groups, maintaining constant visual contact with all children.
  9. Participate in activities and assist children in completing tasks, including both land and water-based activities.
  10. Complete necessary documentation related to attendance, health, and wellness.
  11. Maintain cleanliness and organization in program areas, adhering to safety protocols.
  12. Comply with all regulatory agency and YMCA policies and procedures.
  13. Foster positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues, promoting a positive image of the YMCA.
  14. Adhere to punctuality and dress code requirements as per work site standards.
  15. Execute tasks as directed by the Site or Child Care Director.
  16. Assist in recruitment efforts and special events for the YMCA.
  17. Participate in YMCA Camp Days and other scheduled program locations.

Qualifications:

  1. Meets state educational and experience requirements for child care roles.
  2. High School diploma or GED preferred, with two years of experience working with children.
  3. Associate degree in a relevant field is advantageous.
  4. Certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED required within the first 60 days of employment.
  5. Ability to design and implement age-appropriate activities.
  6. Experience working with diverse populations and building authentic relationships.

Physical Requirements:

Must possess the ability to lead and engage in activities, ensuring the safety and supervision of children at all times.
