Position Overview

Role Duration: This position operates in alignment with the school calendar, providing care and support to children during designated hours.

Work Schedule: Shifts are available Monday through Friday, covering early morning and late afternoon hours. Additional opportunities for training and meetings may be scheduled.

Role Summary: Under the guidance of the Site Director, the Child Care Assistant will oversee children, assist in executing engaging activities, and ensure a safe and nurturing environment. The role emphasizes the core values of the YMCA: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. This is a part-time role averaging under 30 hours weekly.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement engaging lesson plans and activities that inspire enthusiasm among participants.
  2. Supervise children and manage all activities to ensure safety and engagement.
  3. Conduct regular observations and assessments of each child's progress.
  4. Maintain a clean and organized program space and equipment.
  5. Participate in family engagement events, program activities, and staff meetings.
  6. Support the holistic development of children, addressing their physical, social, and emotional needs.
  7. Collaborate with team members to plan and execute activities effectively.
  8. Provide direct supervision and maintain visual contact with all children in care.
  9. Engage in daily activities, assisting children in completing tasks and participating in various activities.
  10. Complete necessary documentation regarding attendance and health checks, and communicate with families as needed.
  11. Ensure program areas are tidy and adhere to safety protocols.
  12. Follow all relevant policies and procedures set forth by regulatory agencies and the YMCA.
  13. Foster positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues, representing the YMCA in a professional manner.
  14. Adhere to punctuality and dress code requirements as per site guidelines.
  15. Execute tasks as directed by the Site or Child Care Director.
  16. Assist in recruitment efforts and special events for the program.
  17. Participate in YMCA Camp Days and other scheduled program locations.

Qualifications:

  1. Meet educational and experience requirements as mandated by state regulations.
  2. Preferred: High School diploma or GED with two years of experience working with children.
  3. Associate degree in a relevant field is advantageous.
  4. Certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse prevention training are required within a specified timeframe.
  5. Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities.
  6. Experience working with diverse populations and fostering positive relationships.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to engage in physical activities and maintain supervision of children at all times.
