Afterschool Lead Teacher Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Afterschool Lead Teacher to join our team at the Jewish Community Center of the East Bay. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a positive educational climate, developing and implementing engaging lesson plans, and supervising children in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the JCC East Bay's educational philosophy and program vision.
  • Supervise and support children in kindergarten through fifth grade, including planning and implementing developmental programming.
  • Create instructional resources and curriculum that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to support lesson planning and implementation.
  • Establish clear objectives for all learning activities and lead children in a variety of structured and unstructured activities.
  • Observe and evaluate students' performance and provide individualized support as needed.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom and communicate with parents as necessary.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and Jewish holiday training sessions.
  • Contribute to the overall program development and support the goals of the JCC East Bay.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of childcare or equivalent experience.
  • BA in Education or similar degree (psychology, sociology, recreation).
  • Experience working with children in kindergarten through fifth grade and ability to plan appropriate activities for different age groups.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to organize tasks and develop and implement plans to efficiently meet organizational goals.
  • Strong classroom management and behavior management skills.
  • Ability to lead a classroom of children and work in a team.
