Key Responsibilities

Peraton is in search of a Senior Systems Engineer to support our Department of Defense (DoD) Community customer from our Chantilly, VA office. This role is integral to a dynamic and high-performing team focused on the design, development, testing, and deployment of complex systems within an Agile framework, contributing to mission success for diverse stakeholders.

Core Duties:
  • Collaborate closely with DoD customers and stakeholders throughout the system lifecycle, including development, integration, testing, deployment, and operational phases of a sophisticated ground system architecture.
  • Contribute to the creation of mission-critical, highly available, and high-performance networked systems in a collaborative environment.
  • Generate systems engineering documentation, such as operational concepts, requirements, specifications, interface control documents, and validation & verification plans.
  • Engage in system planning and design to expand resources in alignment with program requirements.
  • Assist in conducting trade studies related to ground systems.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:
  • Possession of an active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and the capability to obtain or maintain a polygraph, if necessary.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience in Systems Engineering; or a Master's degree with 6+ years of experience. Four (4) years of relevant experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
  • Proficiency with Windows-based operating systems, scripting languages for task automation, and system configuration automation tools (e.g., Puppet, Chef, Ansible).
  • Experience in system integration, testing, and configuration of networked services, file systems, and authentication mechanisms.
  • Skills in operating system administration for Red Hat 7.x, including system builds from bare metal, software package installations, troubleshooting, and security hardening.
  • Direct experience with Windows and/or Linux operating systems.
  • Familiarity with distributed computing technologies.
  • Experience with virtualization/cloud technologies (e.g., OpenStack, Citrix XenServer, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, VMWare), Docker Containers, Ansible, and Heat templates.
  • Knowledge of front-end processing and network gateway appliances and/or software.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in designing, developing, and integrating comprehensive satellite ground systems, including infrastructure, processing frameworks, and software components.
  • Familiarity with object-oriented development practices, open architecture systems, distributed computing technologies, web services, SOA, networking technologies, requirements management tools, scripting, automated testing tools, modeling and simulation, and security certification processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly and confidently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with management, customers, and various stakeholders across the DoD.
  • Detail-oriented, capable of multitasking, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
