Key Responsibilities:
- Leverage your knowledge of the Victorian Aboriginal Community to offer guidance and support to Corrections Victoria.

- Compensation: VPS Grade 3, ranging from $74,580 to $90,558 plus superannuation.

The Aboriginal Wellbeing Officer (AWO) role was established in response to the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Agreement, addressing the findings of the 1991 Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody.
AWOs play a crucial role in Corrections Victoria's commitment to decreasing the over-representation of Aboriginal individuals in the criminal justice system and ensuring equitable justice outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians.
As an AWO, you will engage directly with Aboriginal individuals in custody, providing cultural, spiritual, and wellbeing support while coordinating cultural activities and programs. This role involves participating in the case management of Aboriginal prisoners, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to facilitate successful reintegration into the community.
You should possess a solid understanding of case management and a demonstrated awareness of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, including its societal and cultural dynamics and the challenges it faces.
Essential Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, its culture, and the issues affecting it.
- Proven ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal community.
- Familiarity with case management principles and practices.
