Position Overview:

The Project Manager (Industrial Hygiene) oversees a dedicated team of Industrial Hygienists engaged in various projects related to the assessment and management of environmental hazards, including but not limited to lead, asbestos, mold, and contaminants in drinking water. This position primarily operates within an office environment, with occasional site visits and hands-on fieldwork as necessary. In addition to project oversight, the Project Manager is tasked with fostering client relationships, managing customer interactions, preparing and submitting proposals, and ensuring the financial viability of projects.

Work Schedule: Standard working hours are during the day, with occasional evening availability required to support team members working alternative shifts.

Transportation Requirement: A personal vehicle is necessary for travel related to project duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Expertise in Subject Matter: Maintains comprehensive knowledge of industrial hygiene standards and practices, equipment, sampling methodologies, and applicable regulations. Effectively translates client requirements into actionable tasks for technical and administrative personnel.
  • Project Management: Oversees project timelines and financial performance, schedules team assignments, addresses inquiries from team members and clients, interprets analytical results from field samples, and ensures the completion of project deliverables in accordance with internal protocols.
  • Team Leadership: Supervises a team of Industrial Hygienists, engages in discussions regarding compensation and performance, actively supports the professional growth of team members, and reviews employee time records and expense reports.
  • Business Development: Cultivates relationships with potential clients, submits proposals, and manages ongoing relationships with major clients to identify opportunities for additional services.
  • Additional Duties: May conduct training sessions on asbestos, lead, and mold safety.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in managing or supervising a team of technical professionals in Industrial Hygiene or Environmental Science.
  • At least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in the field of Industrial Hygiene.
  • Advanced expertise in comprehensive project management; familiarity with Microsoft Project or similar tools is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial hygiene practices related to asbestos and lead, with additional knowledge of water quality, bacteria, mold, and noise levels preferred.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline such as environmental science, industrial hygiene, or chemistry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
  • Experience sufficient to qualify for the City of Philadelphia Certified Asbestos Project Inspector (API) designation.
  • Required certifications include Asbestos Investigator (AI), Asbestos Building Inspector, Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor, Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor, and NIOSH 582.
  • Preferred certifications include Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Asbestos Management Planner, Asbestos Project Designer, Member of Asbestos Analyst Registry (AAR), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Lead RRP, and Lead Dust Sampling Technician.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • This role may involve various physical activities including standing, sitting, reaching, crawling, climbing, and squatting.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when on project sites.
